The world did not end in a single moment.
It faded.
Cities remained, but their purpose disappeared. Machines continued their routines long after their makers were gone. Roads led to places that no longer existed. Towers transmitted signals no one was listening to.
Humanity had believed civilization was permanent.
That progress had a direction.
That tomorrow would always resemble today.
But beneath the ruins, something survived.
Not hope.
Not memory.
The instinct to begin again.
Perhaps every civilization eventually becomes archaeology. Perhaps every future is built upon the remains of a forgotten world.
And perhaps the apocalypse is not the end of humanity—
but the moment humanity discovers how little of its world it truly needed.
