Before Humanity

Before We Were Human

We like to imagine that consciousness began with us.
That before humanity, the universe was silent.

But perhaps we arrived late.

Perhaps intelligence is not an invention of life,
but a pattern that matter eventually learns to follow.

We search the past for our origins,
assuming that what came before us must have been simpler.

What if it was not?

What if somewhere beneath the layers of time
lies not the beginning of humanity —

but the memory of something that came before it?
